Prohibition of the muscle building prohormones
On 22 October 2004, President George Bush used his legislative authority to apply the law of anabolic steroids Control in 2004. acts were ratified by the U.S. Congress earlier in the month, and has expanded the original anabolic steroid Control Act of 1990. At the heart of the law add 26 new steroid compounds to the previous list of substances that are legally defined as "anabolic steroids" and placed under Schedule III list of controlled substances.
Although some of the "new" muscle building compounds are truly anabolic steroids that were missed in the original legislation in 1990, many people are actually pro-hormones that have been developed to cash in on the ban on anabolic steroids for more than a decade ago. New addiction include:
O androstanediol
O androstanedione
O androstenediol
O androstenedione
O bolasterone
O calusterone
O * 1-dihydrotestosterone (aka "1-testosterone ")
O furazabol
O-ethyl-13b-17a hydroxygon-4-en-3-one
O 4-hydroxytestosterone
O 4-hydroxy-19-nortestosterone
O mestanolone
O 17a-methyl-3b, 17b-dihydroxy-5a-androstane
O 17a-methyl-3a, 17b-dihydroxy-5a-androstane
O 17a-methyl-3b, 17b-dihydroxyandrost-4-ene
O 17a-methyl-4-hydroxynandrolone
O methyldienolone
O methyltrienolone
O-methyl-17a * 1-dihydrotestosterone (aka "17 - methyl-1-testosterone ")
O norandrostenediol
O norandrostenedione
O norbolethone
O norclostebol
O normethandrolone
O stenbolone
O tetrahydrogestrinone
where the old law of 1990 required the use of the phrase "promotes muscle growth", the new law divides with this. No longer will the attorney general to prove that the compound has anabolic properties. revised criteria states that the compound only to be "chemically and pharmacologically related" to the male hormone testosterone. Such creative language effectively places most newly-developed in the prohibited category of prohormones.
alternatives to steroids - prohormones, and related compounds
This is not surprising that with the advent of anabolic steroids Control Act of 1990, many law-abiding bodybuilders will look for legal, over-the-counter muscle-building alternatives. And recognizing the billions of dollars to be made, it was not long before the supplement manufacturers responded prohormones and other closely related products.
If Ben Johnson's positive drug test in 1988 was "coming out party" for muscle-building steroids, prohormones got their biggest boost from the former baseball slugger Mark McGuire. During the 1998 baseball season, both McGuire and Sammy Sosa put on a tremendous exhibition of slugging power as they chased Roger Maris' single-season record of 61 home run. McGuire broke the record with 70 and seemed to be the perfect role model for children, but his "idol status" was short-lived as the roving sports reporter spotted supplement, androstenedione, one of the powerful new prohormones, in his locker.
